ALINE Inc. ("ALINE," "we," "us," or "our") is committed to protecting the privacy of our users. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, disclose, and safeguard your information when you use the ALINE mobile application and website (collectively, the "Service").
1. Information We Collect
We collect information you provide directly, information generated through your use of the Service, and information from third-party sources.
Account Information: When you create an account, we collect your name, email address, and professional information such as your role, industry, interests, and networking intent.
Authentication Data: If you sign in via Apple Sign-In or LinkedIn OAuth, we receive limited profile information as authorized by you through those platforms.
Proximity Data: ALINE uses Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE), GPS, and where available, Ultra-Wideband (UWB) to detect nearby users. We process proximity signals to facilitate matching. We do not continuously track your location — proximity detection is only active during user-initiated visibility sessions.
Chat & Communication Data: Messages exchanged through ALINE's chat feature are stored to provide the Service. We do not read your private messages for advertising purposes.
Usage & Analytics Data: We collect anonymized usage data including session duration, feature engagement, and crash reports to improve the Service.
Device Information: We may collect device type, operating system, unique device identifiers, and push notification tokens.
2. How We Use Your Information
We use collected information to:
- Provide, maintain, and improve the Service
- Facilitate proximity-based matching and anonymous chat
- Personalize your experience using AI-powered matching
- Send push notifications related to matches, messages, and service updates
- Ensure safety and moderate content
- Comply with legal obligations
3. How We Share Your Information
We do not sell your personal information. We may share information in the following circumstances:
- With Other Users: Your professional profile information is shared with matched users according to the app's reveal mechanics. Your identity remains anonymous until mutual reveal.
- Service Providers: We use third-party services for infrastructure (Supabase), analytics (PostHog), payments (RevenueCat), AI processing (Google Gemini), and content moderation. These providers access data only as needed to perform their services.
- Legal Requirements: We may disclose information if required by law, regulation, legal process, or governmental request.
- Safety: We may share information when we believe it is necessary to protect the safety of our users or the public.
4. Data Storage & Security
Your data is stored securely using Supabase (hosted on AWS). Authentication tokens are stored in device-level secure storage (not in plain text). We use encryption in transit (TLS) and implement access controls on all backend systems. Edge functions authenticate via JWT and do not expose internal error details.
5. Your Rights & Choices
You may:
- Access, update, or delete your profile information at any time through the app
- Request a full account deletion, which cascades through all associated data
- Opt out of push notifications through device settings
- Control visibility sessions — proximity detection is only active when you choose to go visible

6. Data Retention
We retain your data for as long as your account is active or as needed to provide the Service. Expired visibility sessions and match data are cleaned up automatically. Upon account deletion, your data is permanently removed from our systems.
7. Children's Privacy
ALINE is intended for users aged 18 and older. We do not knowingly collect information from anyone under 18. If we learn we have collected data from a minor, we will delete it promptly.
8. Third-Party Links
The Service may contain links to third-party websites or services. We are not responsible for the privacy practices of those third parties.
9. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of material changes through the app or by email. Your continued use of the Service after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
