Updates
What we've shipped, why it matters.
Intro videos without audio are now blocked at upload
A handful of intros were uploading with no sound because the microphone permission was off (or the chosen clip had no audio track to begin with). The app now catches that before upload and points you to Settings to re-enable Microphone access.
Fixed
- Intro videos that have no audio are now rejected at upload, with a clear message asking you to check Microphone access in Settings and try again.
- Picking a silent clip from your library (like a screen recording) is also caught the same way.
Resume uploads now work in the profile editor
A small but annoying fix. In Edit Profile, the Add PDF button for your resume did nothing when tapped, while Pitch Deck and Calendar worked. Now the file picker opens, your PDF uploads, and the row updates with the filename. The same fix also restores the Replace resume button inside chats.
Fixed
- Tapping Add PDF on the Resume row in Edit Profile opens the Files picker and uploads your PDF, just like Pitch Deck already did.
- Tapping Replace on a saved resume from inside a chat now opens the picker too. Sending a resume you had already saved was never broken.
The Intros carousel now shows every video user, including people you have matched with
A small but important fix to the Intros carousel. The carousel was meant to show every ALINE member who has uploaded an intro, but it was quietly hiding anyone you had already matched with. So if you were already connected to half your network, you saw only the videos of people you had not met yet. Now the carousel really does show everyone with a video.
Improved
- Intros carousel includes matched users too. The carousel is for watching intros, not for picking new matches, so people you are already connected to belong there. Your regular Discovery feed still excludes matched users, as before.
Groups replace Events, every Aline member is reachable, and every video reaches every viewer
Big release. The Events tab is now Groups — same in-group matching and discovery, but timeless rooms instead of one-off events. The Elsewhere section of Discover used to silently cap at 50 people; it's uncapped, so you'll see everyone outside your radius. And intro videos now show up for every viewer, not just the ones whose UID happened to sort early.
New
- The Events tab is now Groups — persistent rooms instead of scheduled events. Create a group for a recurring meetup, a partnership project, a residency, or just a topic you want to stay in. In-group matching, top matches, and the per-member context override all work the same way.
- Set an optional member limit when you create a group. Type the number directly — no more tapping an arrow 50 times to get to "100." Leave it blank for unlimited. Cards show "12 / 50 members" when a group is capped, "12 members" otherwise.
- Group creator role. A small group of people can spin up new groups without needing full admin access. If creating a group is part of your role on ALINE, your "+" button appears on the Groups tab.
- Cover photos on groups. Pick a cover image when you create or edit a group; it shows on the group's detail screen.
- Edit your group after you create it. Creators get an Edit option in the group menu — name, description, visibility, location, tags, cover all change in-place.
- Swipe to leave a group from your My groups list.
- Group-context matching during in-person meetups. Set your context for a specific group (e.g. "I'm at the dog festival and I'm looking to adopt a poodle"), and the Aline next to you will surface other members whose context matches — even if your default intent on ALINE is something completely different. Useful for festivals, conferences, and one-day partnerships.
- Push when someone joins your group and matches you well. When a newcomer joins a group you're already in and matches you ≥80%, you get a push. Per-pair dedup so you won't get spammed by the same person.
- Group invite links. Share
aline.network/g/<id> — tapping opens the group detail page in the app, even if the recipient is signed out.
Improved
- Elsewhere on ALINE is uncapped. The Discover feed's Elsewhere section used to silently stop at 50 people. Now it surfaces everyone outside your radius, so you can actually find people across cities and time zones.
- Every intro video reaches every viewer. The Intros carousel was supposed to show "videos from everyone with a video, regardless of physical proximity." A behind-the-scenes sampling cap was dropping anyone whose user ID happened to sort late — silent and invisible. Fixed. If you have a video, every other ALINE member sees it; if you're a viewer, you see every intro.
- Phone-only admins can now actually run admin tools. A long-standing internal bug locked out admins who signed up with a phone number instead of an email. Fixed; admin tools now respect both paths.
- Groups feature polish — five passes of UX repairs. Non-member join flow, share-invite link UX, member tap routes to the right profile, location wires into Discover Nearby, friendlier error messages, empty states, realtime group updates, rate limits to keep the app responsive.
Fixed
- Private group invite codes no longer leak through the directory.
- The "+" button to create a group refreshes the moment you're granted access — no need to sign out and back in.
- A few internal CFs that hadn't been renamed during the Events → Groups conversion are now consistent end-to-end.
Faster code, working profiles, sound on your videos
Three things you've been hitting head-on. Phone codes arrive faster and the field actually accepts what you type. A couple of profiles that wouldn't open from Lines now load fine. And tapping unmute on a profile video finally plays sound — even with your phone on silent.
Fixed
- Phone codes arrive about 11 seconds sooner on the first launch after install. The app was sitting on a verification step that no longer needs to happen up front.
- Typing into the OTP boxes no longer eats your digits. Codes you paste from QuickType land cleanly; manual typing isn't interrupted when the code is on its way.
- A handful of profiles that opened to a "Profile not found" screen from your Lines tab now open correctly.
- If a chat ever loads partially, "Back to Matches" actually takes you back to your Lines instead of stranding you on a blank screen.
- Tapping the speaker icon to unmute a profile video plays sound — including after you've used the recap recorder or voice input earlier in the session. Sound now comes through whether your ringer switch is up or down.
Profile photos are back across Discovery, Lines, and Chat
Profile photos stopped showing on business cards in the last build — every avatar fell back to initials even when you'd uploaded a photo. This release wires them back in so faces show up everywhere you expect them.
Fixed
- Profile photos render again on Discovery feed cards.
- Profile photos render again in your Lines tab.
- Profile photos render again in your Chats list.
- Profile photo shows in the chat thread header when you open a conversation.
- Initials still appear as the placeholder while a photo loads and for users who haven't added one yet.
A fresh look — ALINE redesigned, top to bottom
Every screen has a new look. Cleaner cards, a floating tab bar, an Intros Nearby reel right at the top of Discovery, a new post-meeting recap → endorse → follow-up flow, and a shared timeline for every line you build.
New
- Intros Nearby on Discovery. A horizontal reel of 15-second intros from people near you sits right at the top of the feed. Tap any thumbnail to watch full-screen — swipe up to move to the next one, TikTok-style.
- Recap → Endorse → Follow up. After you mark a Line as Met, three one-tap actions appear on the card. Record a quick audio recap, pick 2–3 endorsements from AI suggestions based on what you just talked about, and send a drafted follow-up by SMS, email, or in-app — whichever channel they prefer.
- Line memory. Every Line now has a shared timeline you can both see. Met-ups, endorsements traded, events you both attended, and the first outreach — all in one place.
- Events that actually find people. Tap into any event for a venue-scoped Discovery feed showing who's in the room, who's outside, and who's en route. Set a separate intent for the event that overrides your default while you're there.
- Create + share invite-only events. New events generate an 8-character code you can share via QR, link, or message.
- Video intro on your profile. Drop a 15-second intro on Edit Profile to land in the Intros Nearby reel.
- Identity verification + resume in Onboarding. Optional last step lets you verify your identity (1-min selfie + ID) and upload a resume PDF. Faster, sharper matching once you arrive at events.
Improved
- Discovery feed. White surface, cleaner cards, a single match score, and a live "X nearby" pill with your neighborhood. The intent text moved into Settings so the feed stays focused on people, not knobs.
- Lines list. Three clear sections — Your turn, Waiting on them, Met. Every card shows status at a glance with a colored header strip.
- Messages thread. New floating glass composer at the bottom, and a green "100% match" strip above the conversation when the two of you are a perfect match.
- Onboarding. Eight-step flow with a new "Who do you want to meet?" chip picker — pick up to 3 fields or roles you're looking to connect with.
- Floating tab bar. The 5-tab bar at the bottom is now a single floating pill with a soft blur, like Apple Notes or Threads.
- Settings. Full rebuild with an Identity strip at the top, grouped lists, and a footer that reminds you where ALINE is built.
Fixed
- "Aline back" responds instantly on Pending cards (carry-over from 1.2.154).
- 100% match treatment now only renders at exactly 100% — sub-100% scores show inline color, not a prominent badge.
Aline back feels instant again
When you tap Aline back on a Pending card, the person now moves out of Pending right away instead of sitting there for four seconds while the rest of the app catches up.
Fixed
- Tap Aline back on someone in your Pending tab — they leave Pending the moment you tap. Before, the confirmation toast said you were connected but the card hung around for about four seconds while the server caught up. Now the card moves to ALINED immediately and the connection lands in the ALINED tab a beat later.
Upload your resume, get better matches
Onboarding now ends with an optional bonus step where you can upload a PDF or DOCX resume. We extract your work history, education, and skills so others can find you by what you've actually done — not just what you typed in 5 quick steps. Don't have a resume? We'll show you how to save your LinkedIn profile as a PDF.
New
- Upload your master resume (PDF or DOCX) at the end of onboarding. We parse your positions, schools, and skills and add them to your profile. Skippable — but uploading takes 30 seconds and makes you much easier to find.
- "Save your LinkedIn as a PDF" instructions inside the upload sheet, with step-by-step directions for both desktop and iPhone Safari. No external links — fully in-app.
- Re-upload anytime from Settings → Resume / Profile Import. First upload won't overwrite values you typed during onboarding; later uploads will (latest resume wins, but empty fields never erase what you have).
- A "Better matches start with your resume" banner appears on Discovery if you skipped. Dismiss it for the session with the X, or hide it forever with "I don't have one".
Improved
- Two light reminders if you skipped: one at 24 hours, one at 7 days. After that, no more pushes about resumes.
Fixed
- The old "request LinkedIn data export, wait 24 hours, come back and upload" flow is gone. It never worked — nobody completed the 24-hour wait. Replaced with the immediate resume upload above.
Show off your wins
Cards in your Discovery and Lines tabs now show social proof at a glance — top endorsements and Lines count, right where you'd expect them.
New
- Top-2 endorsements show on every person's card (e.g., "Builder × 5 Patient × 3"). Respects your hidden-trait settings, so you stay in control of what's visible.
- A green pill on Lines and Pending cards shows how many trusted connections each person has — instant social proof.
Improved
- The card meta row is denser and easier to scan.
Never miss a ping. Stay invisible at home.
Two upgrades land together — a chronological notification inbox on your Profile, and an opt-in "Home privacy" mode that hides you from Discovery when you're home.
New
- Notification inbox. Tap the bell on your Profile to see every push you've received. Unread ones get a small accent; tap any row to jump straight to the screen the original notification would have. Swipe to delete, or hit "Mark all read" to clear them in one tap.
- Home privacy. Settings → Discovery → Home privacy. Drop a pin on a map (default 800m radius). When you're physically inside the zone, three things happen at once: you disappear from other users' Discovery feeds, your BLE pings stop, and your precise location stops uploading. A green dot on your Profile tab tells you privacy mode is active.
Improved
- The notification inbox also captures pushes from saved alerts and proximity intent alerts.
Three fixes from your feedback
The Discovery icon is back on iOS 16, accept errors finally explain themselves, and intent parsing now understands "I want to meet X" vs "I want a job as X".
Fixed
- Discovery tab icon shows on iOS 16 again. A SwiftUI icon name we used was iOS 17+, leaving the Discovery tab blank on older devices. Swapped to one that's been around longer — and reads more accurately as the proximity-discovery metaphor you'd expect.
- "Couldn't accept — please try again" now tells you what actually went wrong. Tapping Accept on a pending Aline used to hide four very different problems behind one vague error. Now you'll see something specific: the other person withdrew, you're already connected, the request expired, or it's truly retryable.
Improved
- Looking for a job? Matching gets it now. If your intent says "Looking for a full-time job as AI engineer," ALINE used to match you with other AI engineers — exactly the wrong people. The matcher now distinguishes between "I want to meet someone in role X" and "I want to be hired as role X," and routes you to founders, CTOs, and hiring managers when you're job-seeking.
Send Aline feels instant. Lines opens to your real connections.
Optimistic Send Aline, the Lines tab opens to ALINED, longer "Ask me about" prompts wrap properly, and camera-roll videos actually upload.
New
- Optimistic Send Aline. The Send Aline flow now feels instant. The person disappears from Discovery and a Pending row appears in Lines the moment you tap Send — no waiting for the round trip. If something fails, the state reverts automatically.
- Lines tab opens to ALINED. The first thing you see is the people who actually connected with you, not your pending outbox. The Pending segment is still one tap away.
- "Looking for: …" preview on Lines cards. The same intent preview you see on Discovery cards now shows on ALINED and Pending too, so you remember what each person is looking for.
Fixed
- Long "Ask me about" prompts no longer get cut off. Sentence-length prompts now wrap inside the chip instead of clipping past the edge of the screen.
- Camera-roll video intros actually upload. Picking a video from your library used to close the picker silently with no upload. Now it works, and if anything does go wrong you'll see a real error message with a Retake option.
A walkthrough that actually shows you what ALINE can do
A new four-chapter guided tour replaces the old per-tab tutorial. Spotlights real UI elements, lets you skip anywhere, and remembers where you left off.
New
- Four-chapter new user tour. Right after onboarding, ALINE walks you through how it works in ~4 minutes: how Discovery works, how to connect in person with QR, how to sharpen your card, and a quick tour of Speed Networking and Line Memory. Each step spotlights a real UI element with a narration card — no fake screenshots, no carousels.
- Skip whenever you want. A ✕ on every card lets you skip a single chapter, the whole tour, or just close it. We'll re-show one-shot coachmarks the first time you hit Send Aline, the QR display, Video Intro, Speed Networking, or Line Memory — so the important things still get explained.
- Replay it any time. Settings → Take the Tour starts the whole thing over from the beginning.
Improved
- During the tour, tab swipes and tab-bar taps are paused so you can't accidentally swipe out of the sequence.
- Coachmarks survive app restarts — if you skipped the tour Tuesday and tap Send Aline for the first time Thursday, you'll still get the explanation.
